Florida Outdoor Gun Ranges
with Okeechobee Shooting Sports
Outdoor Gun Range Options
Okeechobee is one of the last strongholds of the old Florida, which means our outdoor gun ranges offer a unique experience. For beginners, we recommend our Rifle and Pistol Ranges. It’s a good place to get more comfortable and feel supported by others in the community.
Rifle & Pistol Ranges

Practice your precision on the rifle and pistol lanes, which range from 5 to 200 yards. For just $20 per shooter, you can get an all-day range pass.
Our rifle ranges, which have 24 individual lanes and extend 200 yards, are recommended for sighting your rifle, checking your zero for a coming hunt, or prepping for a match. In general, it’s just fun to shoot. We provide a bench and a rifle rest at each shooting position.
Our pistol ranges allow distances from 5 to 50 yards. Pistol rests are available. You can either bring your own pistol or rent one from the ProShop. YOu can also get some targets from the ProShop. (Ask about the Zombies.)
Galleries

Our Gallery Ranges are for when you’ve gotten used to punching holes in paper. Now, it’s time to try reactive targets—meaning targets that give immediate feedback. The plate will fall, the arrow spins, and you instantly know if you got a hit or not.
The pistol galleries cost $35 per shooter for the day, but for Shooters 16 and under, it costs $10 with a paid adult.
Unlimited Rifle

After getting used to shooting rifles (at the Rifle and Pistol Range), it’s time to move up. Our Unlimited Rifle Range allows you to shoot an assortment of rifles from multiple positions. This freedom gives you the ability to round out and study the experience in new ways.
The Unlimited Rifle range is where we use the Tennerite brand of exploding targets. These targets instantly gratify you with noise and smoke feedback from well-placed shots. Targets can be placed out to 200 yards.
The cost of usage is $35 per shooter for the day. (This fee includes access to the Pistol and Rimfire Galleries.)
500 Yard

Once a month, we host a 500-yard day where you can test out your long-range skills. Participants have to book AND pay in advance, which you can do here. There is a maximum of 16 shooters able to participate, so we recommend booking ASAP.
Private Ranges
For an extremely unique experience, try out our private ranges (standard and 100-yard).

We'll Get You Out There!
Okeechobee’s Outdoor Gun Ranges
Resting on nearly 100 acres of Florida backwoods, Okeechobee Shooting Sports is tucked into the edge of the Florida wilderness. It’s a good example of the Old Florida. We’ve got plenty of room for you and your family.
We also offer campsites if you’re looking for an extended stay.
From Newbies and Novices To Long-Standing Owners
This community can seem intimidating. At first glance, you see tactical gear, judgy eyes, and well… guns. If you have no experience with any of that stuff, just the look of it can send you running.
But we want you to know that you (yes, YOU) are welcome here. No matter who you are or where you come from, we want everyone who visits us to:
- See the truth about the gun community
and - Feel comfortable testing out a new and exciting hobby.
And fundamentally, that’s what this is.
For Newbies
First, we invite you not to worry about being called a newbie. Everyone starts somewhere, and we are just happy that you’ve read this far! There is no judgment here. We are prepared to support the exploration of this hobby as far as you like.
But be warned, this can snowball, and then you find yourself considering just how useful tactical pants may be.
Here at OKSS, we provide a safe place to try new things, new types of shooting, and even shooting sports. It’s a great place to develop the foundation of a skill of a lifetime.
For Owners
For anyone who considers themselves above the “newbie” level, we offer plenty for you, too. We are a staple in the local gun community and are proud to be so. If you want to find like-minded people to enjoy your hobby with, we are the spot.
We also have regular events, the ProShop, which is prepared to fill any gaps you’ve got in your collection, and our gunsmithing services. You can check out gunsmithing here.
And if you’re looking to make this hobby more sustainable, consider our memberships.
Indoor vs. Outdoor Gun Ranges
Some of the biggest differences between indoor vs. outdoor gun ranges include
- Exposure to the elements
- Convenience of Location
- The sound
- Safety
We are prejudiced against indoor ranges, being an outdoor gun range, so if you want to stay inside this might not be your jam.
For outdoorsy types, getting out there and shooting guns is a very fun activity. Also, because we have more space, we have more types of shooting that we can offer. We also can provide an escape from the extremely busy coastal towns to the east of us.
SAFETY
Despite having a clear preference for outdoor gun ranges, we must note that no matter what type of gun range you choose, safety is EXTREMELY important. So, here are some points of etiquette and safety you need to keep in mind.
- Never point your gun at any object you do not plan to shoot (be so careful where you point that thing)
- Be extremely mindful of the trigger (Do not put your finger there unless you are actually ready to fire)
- Pay attention to what is both in FRONT and BEHIND the target
- Treat every gun as if it is loaded
How Okeechobee Shooting Sports Works
Some of you reading this have never been to an outdoor gun range before and aren’t sure how everything works. We’ve laid it all out for you on this handy page. There's even a video!
If you have any questions about firearms, safety, or our facility, please do not hesitate to ask our staff for help.
Waiver
We require all of our shooters to complete a waiver either before or upon arrival to the ProShop (where you check in). Get it out of the way and fill it out here.
Training & Education
Here at OKSS, we are proud to work in tandem with several different firearms training companies that hold courses and training on our property. You can find a list of companies here.
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Outdoor Gun Ranges
What is the difference between an indoor and outdoor gun range?
Indoor gun ranges are often a set distance with paper targets. Outdoor gun ranges might have paper targets, but there tend to be more types available, and they offer more than one or two distances and types of shooting. With an outdoor range you do not have the oppressive feeling of the ceiling, side panels between booths, the roar of ventilation systems, and most of all, the noise and concussive effects of a confined space.
And on top of that, our passes are for the WHOLE DAY! Not just an hour or half hour.
How many types of ranges do you have?
We offer the following:
- Pistol and Rifle Ranges
- Galleries
- Unlimited Rifle
- Private Ranges
- 500 Yard
We also have sporting clays, trap shooting, and skeet shooting if you are looking for more sport.
Where do I start as a beginner?
We recommend starting with the Pistol and Rifle range to get comfortable with different firearms and different distanced shots. You can either rent your firearms or bring your own.
Do you guys sell ammo?
Yes. You can find all the gear and accessories you need in the ProShop.
Do I need to bring anything?
To participate in any type of shooting, you need to complete a waiver and we recommend wearing closed shoes, comfortable clothing for outdoors- but with a high neck like a T-shirt. You don't want a piece of hot brass going down your front! Other than that, all you need to bring is an open and inquisitive mind!
