Range Safety Video

We want to make sure your most common questions related to range safety and, well, “etiquette” are answered. So we’ve made a video that we’d like EVERYONE to watch. (hint: there’s going to be a test)

LIABILITY WAIVER

All visitors, including minors and spectators, to Okeechobee Shooting Sports are required to complete a Liability Waiver. As of January 1, 2016 all members and guests are required to fill out an electronic waiver at the Pro-shop. This is a one-time process, however all waivers completed prior to January 1, 2016 will need to be renewed.

NOTE TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF MINOR CHILDREN:

Online Waiver

RULES

All visitors must read and abide by the General Range Rules of Okeechobee Shooting Sports and review the Additional Range Rules by Sport and Location.

  • No open toed shoes.
  • Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times near any shooting area.
  • All actions must be kept open unless on the firing line and the range is hot.
  • No loaded firearms behind the firing line or while people are down range.
  • All firearms must be pointed in a safe direction at ALL TIMES whether transporting them to the firing line or on the firing line.
  • A Range Safety Officer (RSO) must be present at all times.
  • If an RSO is not present, please notify the main office (863-357-3006) prior to handling any firearms.
  • Only use the range designated for your course of fire.
  • Be courteous and aware of shooters around you and on other ranges.
  • Notify your RSO or range staff of any unsafe firearm handling or behavior.
  • If you have any questions or are unclear about any safety procedures, please speak with range staff prior to handling any firearm.
  • Be absolutely sure of what is behind your target and where your bullets will be going after they have hit or passed through their intended target or if they miss the intended target!
  • If a bullet goes over the berm, or if you have an accidental discharge, you will not be permitted to shoot the rest of the day.
  • No firing from the hip on any range.
  • Yes, you can bring your own ammo! However, make sure the ammunition you intend to use is permitted on the range you intend to use it on.
  • For your convenience, we carry a large selection of reasonably priced ammunition in our Pro Shop. Stop by before you hit the range, you’ll find all you need here on the range.
Additional Range Rules by Sport and Location

Please read and become familiar with the rules of each area you are utilizing. If there are rules prohibiting something you would like to do, please ask a Range Safety Officer before shooting.

Rifle and Pistol Range

$15 per shooter for the day
Shooters 16 and under are free with a paid adult. Price includes all day access, covered shooting area, benches, chairs, target stand and cardboard target backers. Paper targets are available in the Pro Shop.

Rimfire Gallery

$20 per shooter for the day
Shooters 16 and under $10 with a paid adult. Price includes all day access, covered seating area, at least 100 steel targets, target stands and cardboard target backers for paper targets. Paper targets are available in the Pro Shop.

Gallery Pass

$30 per shooter for the day
Shooters 16 and under $15 with a paid adult. This package includes all day access to the Pistol Gallery, Rimfire Gallery and Unlimited Rifle.
A covered shooting area, target stand and cardboard backers are included. Paper targets are available in the Pro Shop.

Clay Shooting Sports

$9.75 per round of 25 targets
Enjoy all the clay sports for $9.75 per round. Drive right up to the field; no golf carts required. A covered pavilion area is available at each field for a rest between rounds.

Private Range Rental

$100 per four hour block*
Private 30 yard ranges are available for rental to groups and individuals. The rental fee includes a covered area, tables, chairs and target stands. Paper targets are available.*Base rate includes 1 participant. Each additional participant: $20. A Range Safety Officer is required and documentation is required at check-in. Range Officers are available: $35/hour.

Pistol and Rifle Range

• No aluminum or steel cased ammunition is allowed (This ammunition may be used on the gallery ranges).
• Brass cased ammunition only.
• No AK or SKS rifles, 50BMG, stockless rifles or shotguns (These firearms may be used on the Rifle Gallery)
• No rapid fire permitted.
• No drawing from the holster.
• No holstered firearms unless you are certified law enforcement with badge displayed.
• No interactive targets, such as steel targets, cans, bottles etc.
• No stockless shotguns.

Unlimited Rifle Gallery

• Shooting tables can be moved to allow shooters the opportunity to shoot from the prone, kneeling and standing position
• Full-automatic machine guns mounted on bipods or tripods are welcome
• Controlled rapid fire is permitted on the Gallery Ranges. This means bullets must hit the backstop. DO NOT skip bullets off the ground, or anything else, and do not shoot over the berm. If you do, you will not be permitted to shoot for the rest of the day. We want you to be able to enhance your shooting skills and enjoy the experience, but it must be done in a safe and controlled manner.
• Steel and aluminum cased ammunition is permitted.
• Steel targets are permitted as long as the Range Safety Officer approves them.
• Exploding Tannerite brand targets are available for purchase in the Pro Shop and may be used on the gallery. Range Safety Officer must be notified before use.
• Interactive targets brought from home, such as any exploding targets, cans, bottles, balloons or any other item or canisters are not permitted.

Pistol Gallery

• Controlled rapid fire is permitted on the Gallery Ranges. We want you to be able to enhance your shooting skills and enjoy the experience, but it must be done in a safe and controlled manner.
• Full-automatic machine guns may be used with paper targets
• Steel and aluminum cased ammunition is permitted.
• Steel targets are permitted as long as the Range Safety Officer approves them.
• No home made interactive targets, cans, bottles etc. are permitted.
• Only pistol caliber rounds can be used on steel targets. Rifle caliber rounds will destroy steel targets and are a safety hazard.
• If you see damage on a target, notify the Range Safety Officer prior to shooting
• Drawing from holsters IS allowed in the Draw and Shoot Booths. Just not elsewhere on the Gallery range.
Bullets must hit the backstop or steel targets.

Bullet must not skip bullets off the ground or go over the berm. If a shot goes over the top of the berm, you will not be permitted to shoot for the rest of the day.

Rimfire Gallery

• 22 mag, 22lr, 22 short, 22wmr and 17hmr may be shot on this range.
• No other ammunition can be used.
• A responsible adult must supervise minors with firearms at all times.
• If you see damage on a target, notify the Range Safety Officer prior to shooting.

Clay Shooting Fields

Rules: Trap, Skeet & Five-Stand Fields

• A maximum of two shells can be loaded at any one time.
• No moving from one shooting position to another with a loaded firearm.
• All actions must be open and made safe while you are transitioning between stations or away from the firing line.
• Only load at the shooting position, DO NOT load your firearm behind other shooters!
• Shot sizes only between 7.5 and 9 are permitted with load size no greater that 1-1/8th oz. and 3 drams of powder. This means slugs and shot shells between 00-7 are NOT permitted on the clay shooting fields. If you do not know what load your shells are or are not familiar with shot shell load information do not load your firearm without approval from a Range Safety Officer.
• Notify the Range Safety Officer if you wish to use shot shells larger than 7.5 shot sizes, such as hunting loads. This can only be done in certain areas.

Events, Matches and Instruction
