Take advantage of this time

We get it. There is a lot of uncertainty these days. With uncertainty comes anxiety and a feeling of “what can we do?” If you have children in the house you’re probably hearing “There’s nothing to doooooo.”

If you are one of the hundreds of thousand (millions?) of people who are now finding themselves with much more downtime than normal, here are a few suggestions to help take advantage of this time:

  1. Now is the time to teach firearm safety. If you and your family are home more- are you having more discussions about firearm safety? Teenagers may be spending time at each other’s houses- are you sure they know what to do if they encounter a firearm? You may “assume”….but do you KNOW? There is no more important time than now to reinforce the basics.
  2. Firearms must be locked up so children can not access them. It’s not just a good idea- it’s the law. We get it, for a firearm to be deployed for its intended purpose- protecting home and family, it must be easily accessible. We agree 100%. We also agree no child should have access to a gun without an adult present. Those two fundamental truths do not contradict each other. If you need help with a readily accessible safe or hidden storage, please let us know. We’re here to help.
  3. This is an excellent time to bring the family to the range to teach gun safety and proper gun handling. Consider renting a Private Range so you can practice those skills you and your family feel they need. And if someone in the house has never learned- now’s the time!
  4. Take your firearms to the range and make sure they are in good working order and properly sighted in. The two biggest enemies of firearms are politicians and rust. Does your CCW pistol have more lint than oil? Did you miss out on great shot last hunting season because it was just beyond your comfort zone? Having confidence in your firearm is key.

We get it. These are trying times. “Social Distancing” was not a part of our everyday vocabulary. Neither was “run on toilet paper”. However, just as there are things we can do to prevent the spread of the disease- such as good hygiene and social distancing, there are things we can do- SAFELY to ensure our skills stay sharp and we don’t succumb to the fear of the 24 hour news cycle.
